Is the Tower of London closed on Mondays?

No. The Tower is open every day except 24, 25 and 26 December and 1 January. On Sunday and Monday it opens an hour later, at 10:00.

When does the Yeoman Warder tour leave?

Three Yeoman Warders in their dark blue and red state dress standing in a sunlit courtyard of the Tower of London

The tour is included in your entry, it runs in English and you do not need to book. It leaves about every 45 minutes from the morning, near the main entrance. On Sunday and Monday the first tour leaves at 10:45.

The time of the last tour changes with the season, so join one in the morning or around midday. Bad weather or a very full day can change or cancel a tour.

How long does a visit take?

Plan on at least two hours. If you are in a hurry, about 90 minutes is enough to see the highlights. For a full visit with the guided tour, count on three hours or more.

How do the time slots work?

Tickets are for a time slot. Arrive within 30 minutes of the time on your ticket: entry before or after that is not guaranteed. Many dates sell out, and tickets at the gate are sold only if any are left, so book before you travel.

Are the Crown Jewels worth the queue?

Yes, they are a highlight of the visit. A moving walkway carries you past the jewels, so the line moves, but on very busy days the wait can be long. Our tip: go to the Jewel House as soon as you enter, then see the White Tower and the rest while others queue.

Is the Tower open at Christmas and New Year?

It is closed on 24, 25 and 26 December and on 1 January. The Christmas programme runs from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027.

What about the Ceremony of the Keys?

The Ceremony of the Keys is held every evening. Visitors are let in at 21:30 and booking is separate, so reserve well in advance. Photos are not allowed.
